Warning!! This post has TMI You were warned.
Recently I went back to the doctors for a new medicine to help manage my asthma. I loved how Advair helped kick my attacks out of my life. The problem was the random bleeding.
There were times that in the middle of my cycle with no reason to bleed I would have horrible bleeding during sex. Talk about a mood ruining freak out moment. Kinda kills your sex life when you fear bleeding horrifically in the middle of it.
I ended up telling my doctor this during what is called a group visit. You and 10 other people sit in a room and the doctor rolls around doing simple stuff. Things like referrals, Doctor notes, medications. It's was great not having to put the horrible paper gown on. I felt like I got more care during this appointment than one where they have made me strip down and sit in a room alone.
Back to my new medicine. I am now on Singulair and Qvar. Oh boy! The Singulair leaves me sluggish and loopy for a few hours. It usually takes me about 6 hours to feel human again. I can deal with that side effect and adjust my time I take it. My asthma is improving!! My first night in months not waking up in the middle of the night with an asthma attack was the very first night I took it.

Welcome to 2016!
Happy New Year!
I hope this year is one of big positive changes for my family and yours as well.
As with every year, as family we are going to make resolutions for the year.
The 4 topics I encourage my family to make one resolutions each in are:
Health
Spiritual
Education
Personal
We will write our resolutions down on a big sheet of paper. Make sure to include smaller steps to help make the achievable. Then this will be hung where we can see it every day.

This will be my family's go to for our above listed medical needs. I used it myself for my out of control allergy induced asthma recently. (Fall allergies have gone hay wire) I was putting off going to the doctor because I hate dragging myself into an office full of sick people to request refills on my maintenance medication. In less than 15 minutes I was seen (video conference) by a doctor. He helped get me the refills I needed and I never had to get out of my pajamas or even leave the comfort of my own bedroom. The visit was only 10 minutes long but that is how long I usually spend with doctors after waiting 2 or more hours to be seen.

The evil of Asthma... or is it?
One night in the early morning hours I lay there in bed struggling to force myself back to sleep. Then I hear it... Maxx has woken up coughing this horrible cough. ( unlike croup or whooping cough) he crying as if in pain. I rush to his room to find him clawing at his throat screaming in terror now.
I rush Maxx to my room and get a nebulizer treatment started. Believing this to be another episode of something in This isn't his first time using a nebulizer. (Bronchiolitis in the past). The difference this time.. He wants nothing to do with it and starts screaming louder. As I have him sitting in my lap he is biting at me, scratching and starts to spin like a gator. I wake my husband in the worst possible way by yelling "Help me!" Over our child's screams. ( how he slept up to this point I don't understand)
I watch as my husband calms him to take a treatment. My poor husband is an old pro at breathing treatments having had them himself from the time he three. I see the guilt in his face as he blames himself for passing this lung disease to our boys.
We rush him to the hospital. On the way there his breathing calms, I start thinking they will say I am overreacting and send us away. His breathing is still not normal, with a strange rasp.
I carry him into the emergency room. As I approach the nurse station tears start streaming down my face as I remember what it felt like for me having my first asthma attack at the age of 12. I thought I was choking on a chip during lunch while at school. One minutes I was coughing, the next I had blacked out and my friends were helping me to the nurses office as I clawed at my neck trying to get air.
As I approach the desk, I blurt out, "Please help my son.. I think he's having an asthma attack." The three guys at the station take one look at me and rush us through check-in.
I'll never forget the hours after that with the many medical professional standing outside that glass walled room staring at us like a specimen on a slide. Not talking to us, for the most part just scaring the crap out of me.
I look back now and wonder is it my fault they diagnosed Acute Asthma attack since that is what I came in crying. Why had no one looked in his mouth or at his throat? If they had looked back then would they have seen the damage? It was very visible once we finally got our true diagnosis 6 months later in an even scarier incident. Why had his pediatrician not seen this at his checkup between these incidents? My faith in the medical community is not as strong as they once were. It just feels like educated guessing. Too many times it's without even finding out all the facts first.

In Dire Need of Mental Health Care Reform
The way the mentally ill are treated in the United States is horrible.
Be warned there is mature language in this post. This topic is one that make me very angry.
In this country we need mental health care reform in a very serious way. We went from a country that made institutionalizing people far easier than it should be. (Don't want to be married to your wife anymore? Just say she is crazy and have her placed in an institution. Then divorce her for abandoning you.) We are now a country that makes it impossible to get the help that mentally ill people need until they have harmed someone. We thought the abuses were over when we closed these horrible places. Now the world can see that the abusers have just moved buildings as we turn a blind eye. We need better mental health training for our police, so when they answer a call that involves someone under an episode they can respond in a non deadly manner. We need changes so that when individuals with mental health issues are jailed they can receive the medical care they need without delays or posturing.
Many years ago we had a friend that ended up in jail for 3 days over some minor crap. He was denied his medication for Schizophrenia for his entire stay. His parents had even brought it for him with doctor's notes stating it's need.
After being released he took his medicine as usual but it needs to be built up in his system to work correctly. Our usually happy friend ended up having an episode. This episode involved coming to my house and screaming at me about a video we supposedly borrowed without returning. (we didn't even borrow it) He was over the top angry. Spit was flying from his mouth as he yelled at me, calling me a lying bitch. He got in my face yelling at times things that made no sense at all.
I was alone with my oldest two as toddlers.(they were napping) I was afraid of how violent he was going to get. Luckily I knew him enough to know this was not normal behavior. I remained calm and convinced him it must be somewhere else. I collapsed in tears when he did leave. I felt horrible for the thoughts I had when he showed up acting aggressively. I was expecting my two children to be waking up any minute. Was I going to have to hurt my friend to stop him from harming my children or myself? Luckily I didn't have to. I snapped into what I call waitress mode. I stood there with a smile on my face. I him answered calmly and quietly. It was almost as if he didn't know how to process my reaction to his angry outbursts. His head tilting to the side at times just like a puppy learning commands. He left in a slightly calmer state as well as in confusion.
He was horrified when he learned what had happened. I was horrified when cried as he apologized to me. I knew that it wasn't my friend who was standing before me that acted like that. It was the unhealthy part of his brain filtering everything through a filter of unreasonable anger. He did not choose to go off his medication. He was denied his medical rights.

Puke Fairy
Oh Puke Fairy why did you have to make a stop here in my house. The end of the school year is in sight. Is it not bad enough that it got me on Mother's Day? She had to circle back around and get the youngest as well. Nothing like a stomach bug with someone with no puking manners.
Feel that sick feeling in your gut? Begin making your way to or aiming at a proper receptacle. Do not remain where you are. At no time should you move to a carpeted area or on top of upholstered furniture.
Ugh... Time for crackers and electrolyte fluids. The Puke Fairy won the first round all over my couch. I made the mistake of giving him a sipper cup. I have now resorted to a medicine capful every 15-30 minutes. He's holding it down as well as the crackers... for now. Wish me luck, this ends with him. I am so done with puke.
Thank goodness for sanitizing wipes. I have been using those like mad today. My Hoover Floormate SpinScrub has been a godsend when he poured puke as I ran down the hallway with him to the bathroom.
Oh the joys of motherhood. Sounds so glamourous, I can see why women do it.

World AIDS Day
Today is dedicated to spreading awareness about the spread of AIDS and HIV. My hope is that my children will be raising an AIDS free generation. Did you know that with the United States of America's President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) helps provide anti-retro viral medicines for over 5.1 million people worldwide?
To put an end to AIDS and HIV we need to work together as a whole across all humanity.
Please do your part to help leave a better world for our children. I'm doing my part to leave better children for the World.
Educate yourself! Get Tested! Always practice safe sex!
I remember my first time hearing about AIDS and HIV. I was in 6th grade sitting in the library watching a video. I was traumatized to learn that the same act that makes a baby could kill you. (over simplified in my childish mind) I didn't want to even share a seat on the bus with a boy for the next week. The next free day I went back to the library and looked up more. There was still much misinformation at the time it was still very unknown.

30 Days of Thankful (Day8)
My 30 Days of Thankful
Day 8
I am Thankful for my health. Although I carry my weight than I would like. (my own fault) I am very healthy. My blood pressure remains surprisingly healthy even though I have an unhealthy habit of worrying about things I have no control over. I am able to play with my children, climb stairs and even drag our monster trailer on my bike with both the boys inside. Even though asthma sidelined me in my teenage years I have it well under control and have luckily not experienced an attack in a very long time. (I still remain prepared with an unexpired rescue inhaler)
Tonight I add into my prayers those mothers that are unable to play with their children due to health reasons. May the next year bring improvements so their life my feel as full as my own.

Dustin Maher Fit Moms for Life Review & Giveaway
I recently was given the pleasure to review the book by Dustin Maher Fit Moms for Life: How to Have Endless Energy to Outplay your Kids. I will be brutally honest, at first I wondered how a book could help me become fit. Little did I know the enormous amount of support Dustin offers and not just for those that buy his books and DVD's. The book was just one helpful part of a much greater collective of support.
Dustin has a goal to help 1,000,000 mothers get into the best shape of their lives. He knows to help a mom become fit you help a family to become fit. As a mom we often forget to take care of ourselves. Eating unhealthy foods on the run, not taking the time to exercise or treat ourselves. Our children watch this and in turn emulate the same behaviors creating a vicious unhealthy cycle. This is how a family's fitness and health starts with mom.
Cutting through the hype Fit Moms for Life chronicles 31 mothers' personal weight loss and fitness transformations including before and after photos. Dustin guides his readers through the 5 pillars of fitness: Mindset, Nutrition, Strength Training, Burst Training, and Environment. With the ultimate goal being Staying Fit for Life. You are armed with solid exercises, tips to lose weight and to keep it off for a lifetime.
With Dustin's encouragement I started making better choices in my diet. Stopped buying junk foods and instead bought more fruits and vegetables. I was surprised that my kid's acted like they didn't even notice the change to their snacks. Maxx at 2 years old now sneaks apples and celery instead of cookies.
The biggest change has been that I now take the time out of my day for me. Exercising if only for 15-30 minutes a day is better than not at all. I want to be fit for my family. I started reading his book "Fit Moms for Life" shortly after having my son. It't not your average get thin quick plan. With life stories from real moms, workout moves as well as health tips; this book made me take a hard look at my choices.
As with every exercise program life caught up to me and sent me spinning away from my goal. I fell into old habits, letting myself get lost in the hustle and bustle of day to day parenting. Thanks to Dustin's wonderful community of support I didn't stay lost. With weekly encouraging emails, I was cheered on and excouraged to to take the time for me. Remind myself that I am important, my healthy example is important to more than me.
Since receiving his book I have lost almost 30lbs. It has been 6 months, but give me a break we moved only 2 months after I got the book. I'm a mommy blogger not a professional.. I don't get paid for this. No you don't rub it on your body and get results. I made the diet changes and added his workouts. I will admit to chickening out of one of his many challenges, but I'll get there. This is not a diet, it is a life change. I have just started on my journey.
Now it's your turn to make a difference, be the change! At the very least join The Fit Moms for Life community (It's FREE) It's the place where Dustin cuts through all the hype giving eating, exercising and health advice in a fast, fun and effective way that can fit into the busy life of any mom. As a mom of 5 kids, he has really made a difference in my desire to workout. Before, If I didn't feel like exercising or eating healthy I rationalized that it was just me I was hurting. Now I know that isn't true. By working out and eating healthy I am providing my kids with the proper role model into a healthy lifestyle.
His huge community of support is how I know that Dustin in in this to make a healthier future for Mom's and their families. Join Fit Moms for life on Facebook, Twitter, or in his larger community for all things to become healthier mom, I Love Being a Mom.
I was given a book to try in return for my opinion on this program but in no way is my opinion not my own.

Endrometriosis Month
March is Endometriosis Awareness month.
Endometriosis is the number one causes of infertility in women.
Not sure what Endometriosis is? It's when the endrometrium grows outside the uterus instead inside the pelvic cavity. This tissue continues to act like normal uterus tissue and thickens then sheds bleeding into the abdomen. The blood having no where to leave the body causing the swelling of the stomach. The displaced tissue causes irritation to the surrounding area and eventually scaring.
I had a friend that when her Endometriosis was worse it would look like she was almost 6 months pregnant. She would stay in bed for days in intense pain. Nothing would ease her pain.
Although this condition can be treated it has no cure.

World Diabetes Day
Today is World Diabetes Day.
Take the time today to get yourself screened for diabetes. Did you know that over 177 million people world wide have Diabetes and over half don't even know they have it... You can go to here to ~> Diabetes.org and take the American Diabetes Association's online screening test. Just 10 short questions to know your risk.
I have family members that have Diabetes. (doesn't everyone?) Both my parents have type 2 (my mom controls hers through diet and my dad uses insulin shots as well as pills) Type 2 Diabetes is when your body is resistant to the insulin your body makes. Most type 2 Diabetes is caused by obesity but can occur in thin people usually elderly. Some type 2 Diabetics no longer need medications once they become more active and lose weight.
Type 1 Diabetes is a different animal. It can occur at any age, but is usually detected in young adult to small child. In a type 1 Diabetic their pancreas either produces too little or no insulin at all for their body. The exact cause of type 1 Diabetes is unknown. My brother in law is a type 1 Diabetic. I can't imagine what childhood would have been like without all the wonderful sweet treats. Whole holidays would be drastically different, so many everyday things I take for granted.

Heartburn... it just sucks
It doesn't matter what I eat or how little I cannot get away from this heartburn. Luckily the old wives tales about heartburn severity being related to the amount of hair your child would have. If this were true my children would come out looking like wolf boy from the tabloid covers.
I cut out chocolate after being warned by my doctor that it causes heartburn. The list of foods I avoid is very long and I yet still suffer from heartburn. The only thing that give instant relief is a small glass of milk. Too bad I am also slightly lactose intolerant.. Damned if I do and damned if I don't. The approved medicines to use make me nauseous. (but only during pregnancy)
Luckily I only have a few weeks left til I am holding my sweet baby boy in my arms. Of course then I will be dealing with sore nipples, lack of sleep and getting out of my pj's only on good days. Thank goodness I am a SAHM. I don't know how working mom's manage to be functional. I look back on when I had my oldest girls and wonder how I managed it.
Until then.. dealing with the heartburn and actually looking forward to sleepless nights. (like my tiny pregnant bladder is not already preparing me for those nights)

Eww, Not on my watch!?!
Just a warning.. if you have a weak stomach.. turn back now.
Don't say I didn't warn you....
Last night out of the blue Morgan comes running down the stairs screaming that Nadia just threw up. Instantly I cringe in horror thinking of the wall to wall carpeting covering every inch of the upstairs floors, even the bathrooms.. ::cry::
I ascend the stairs trying to hurry but the visions of past puking experiences slowing my steps. My palms start sweating. I start whispering fervent prayers.. "Please god not on the carpet." I'd be happy with barfing in a full toy box at the moment. I timidly ask Morgan where? ::cringing in wait of her answer:: She points to Nadia's bedroom as her face starts to turn a sickly green. I walk into the room and there she is sitting in the middle of her blankets and pillows with a pool of vomit at her feet. Thankfully none got on the carpet. Now I have a puke dripping child and vomit covered bed stuff to deal with.
I rush her to the bathtub hoping that if her head starts spinning and she spews split pea soup it will be somewhat contained. As I step back into the room my stomach instantly thrusts upward and I start dry heaving.. Thank you very much pregnancy induced nausea.. (I swear a mouse fart makes me gag now) Luckily for my my older daughters see this and take pity on me and agree to get the blankets to the wash. I am so grateful for my older girls when they choose not to be evil tween demons.
After getting her washed and settled back into a clean bed. I give her a cup of ginger ale and some saltines. (thank you pregnancy nausea or I would not have these stocked in my cupboards) The house settles for the night and I think my horror is over. Oh how naive can I be?
I hear my son cry out once but fall back asleep. (he does this often.) My husband comes home and after spending some time together my exhaustion catches up to me and I slowly head up to bed. (I hate you stairs at this point of the day) As I take each step this horrible smell gets stronger and stronger. Until I am at the doorway to Maxx's bedroom. I look into his crib with revulsion. There lays my son with vomit covering his entire head and body. His sheets and blankets are covered. I run out of the room gagging and cry out for my husband's help. He thankfully brings the Scentsy Room spray and quickly douses the room to remove the revolting smell. (I love you room spray, for not covering the scent but removing it!)
I give him the choice.. the bed or the kid. He wisely chose the non-moving one. It took me 4 scrub downs to get all the vomit chunks from his hair and I still had to climb into the shower with him to get him fully rinsed off and cleaned.
I walk back into his bedroom to find his bed stripped. Damn you, slacker!! Job not done... After wrestling a now angry Maxx into some clean pj's I look at the bed and find vomit still covering the rails. ::tempted to start cursing loudly:: Instead I call him back upstairs. (just a tip.. now is not the time to huff or roll your eyes or even mention how tired you are) I wipe down the bed and make Dan remake it. (I didn't realize it needed to be said) I lay Maxx down again praying this is the last puke episode of the night. As soon as his "part" is done my husband abandons me again for the glow of the boob tube.
No sooner do I step through my bedroom door but I hear Maxx call out "Ma!" and listen in horror as it ends in gagging. Not again!! I rush in and grab a blanket in a vain hope of saving this new set of sheets. I lift him up and rush him through the house to the nearest bathroom. I managed to get him to a toilet where he vomits again. Except now he wants to splash in the toilet between heaves. So not only am I wrestling him over the toilet but his hands away from the nasty water. I call for help again but the draw of the boob tube has sucked my normally helpful spouse into a mindless oblivion.
I get Maxx cleaned up yet again and change the sheets myself. (easier to do it myself so I don't attempt bodily harm against my spouse at this point) I go to lay him down again and instantly he starts gagging. So I haul him downstairs and sit with a towel wrapped around my upper body. I refuse to carelessly allow myself to be vomited on bare skin by another child. I learned that lesson with my oldest. ::shudder::
After an hour of cuddling a dry heaving angry bundle, he abandons me and finally curls up next to daddy. Once Maxx falls asleep I angrily tell my husband I am going to bed.. you handle him now.. I am off the clock .. on strike whatever it takes. He gets pissed and tells me "but I was ready for bed." Angry curse words are now at the tip of my tongue. I think back on the past month of him sleeping undisturbed for 7-10 hours straight a night as I in comparison have not gotten 4 hours sleep without being woken by a child or snoring bed mate. I give him a non-verbal sign of how much I care about his "tiredness" and drag myself to bed.
I may be a mom of 4 kids (going on 5) but I can't handle puke. Just the thought of it makes my stomach turn. Being pregnant doesn't make it any easier. Can you handle vomiting episodes? After dealing with my oldest and her creepy colored, when did we eat that chunks pukes.. I just can't do it anymore.
Yes, I do know that it is not good to keep a tally of who did what in marriage, but when you are already pregnant and sleep is a commodity. Lack of sleep can push you to be the stereo typical angry pregnant woman. Even quicker if your partner dares to complain about their tiredness after they get almost double the sleep you do every night.
Don't say I didn't warn you....

Mama Needs a Break
All weekend I was ready to lock myself in the bathroom and just marinate in a bubble bath with a long book until after bedtime has passed. Have you ever had one of those weeks when everything hits you at once? This is that time for me. The week before last just set the stage for the crappy week that was this week with the seemingly never ending sickness with my two youngest. Nothing like having to play nurse for two outbreak monkeys with a chest cold that don't have the social graces not to cough directly in your face. I'm shocked I didn't come down with a worse cold than I did. It must be the minor immunity I acquired from having been through this unhygienic stage with my oldest two.
Just as Maxx's cold went away teething hit him full force and he's been taking it out on me ever since. I've lost count how many times he's attempted to bite my shoulder through my clothing while in the middle of a meltdown. (even with baby sign language they still happen) He is drooling non stop so every shirt I wear is covered in slobber. I've gotten to the point I've considered donning a bib or smock to protect myself. He's been so clingy that I haven't used the restroom alone in over a month. (I'm beginning to forget what the bathroom looks like with the door closed.)
My older girls come home every week with another school project due. Not just normal projects but ones that are under a short deadline thanks to their lack of planning and poor communication with their teachers. I may offend someone with this but I hope you'll accept this apology now. Male teachers at a elementary level suck at communication with parents. When projects are assigned in a female teacher's classroom you get a packet of paper sent home describing in detail their requirements and even examples of work that is acceptable. With the male teachers you get a piece of paper that your child dictated from the teacher verbally explaining what they expect. (good luck, understanding it if you have a child like mine that doesn't learn well only verbally) Since they rotate classes (to prepare them for middle school) the students only have 1 hour to get their daily classwork done and take notes for any projects. Another pet peeve of mine is that male teachers are less imaginative on project ideas as well. My 5th grader did the same exact reading project that she did in fourth grade and that her fourth grader sister did not even a month before.
If only that was all that was swirling on my mind I could handle this like every other day. Add to the fact that we will be moving soon and I feel like a complete nut job. It's not that my husband isn't helpful, he just doesn't understand the full aspect of what needs to be accomplished. He is under the false belief that we can just toss everything in a few boxes and be ready. After living here for over 3 years and adding another person to the family we have so many things to sort out. We don't need to drag broken kid toys, clothing that doesn't fit or random papers along with us. Then there is the matter of actually finding a place for us to live. I've been the one to choose where we live with almost every single move we have ever done in the history of our marriage. It wouldn't be so overwhelming if he didn't expect us to move closer to his work, but at the same time it is important to be close to the kid's schools, shopping, and doctor's office. (We live less than a mile from all this right now, minus being close to his work. Which is the main reasons I loved living where we live now. )
I wish I could fast-forward time to when we are moved in to our new place. I hate this in between feeling. I can't even place any orders online to have anything shipped since we are so close to moving and I would risk it not making it here in time due to horrible weather everywhere but here.

Thankful Thursday
Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful.
-- Buddha
That is one of many quotes I love and want it framed to hang on my wall as a daily reminder.
One of my many New Year's Resolutions is to be more thankful for my many blessings. I'm going to be writing Thankful Thursdays to remind myself that I have many wonderful things to be grateful for no matter what stress is going in my life.
What do you have to be thankful for today?

One of my many New Year's Resolutions is to be more thankful for my many blessings. I'm going to be writing Thankful Thursdays to remind myself that I have many wonderful things to be grateful for no matter what stress is going in my life.
- My wonderful husband, for showing me with everyday small gestures that he loves me.
- Nadia, for being the loving little girl that she is and always ready for a hug. She is always full of cheer no matter the situation, her smile brightens my day.
- My little sister Melissa, even though she moved out of state she still depends on me to be her shoulder to lean on.
- My older daughters Lauryn and Morgan, for their continued health and happiness as they mature into young ladies.
- Maxx's quick recovery from his first cold. It was a horrible, emotionally and physically exhausting week.
- My wonderful group of friends/mothers on Facebook for always making me laugh when I need it the most. You know who you Hot mama's are.

Lucky Foods for the New Year
In the past years I've always had a more Southern United States diet for New Year's Eve and day. The menu has always been black-eyed peas, pork, cornbread and some collard greens. It's interesting to see the different foods used in the celebrations around the world and would be interesting to incorporate some of them into our traditions.
In many different cultures around the world there are different foods that are eaten around the New Year to bring luck, prosperity and wealth into the next year here are a few.

Lucky Foods around the World for the New Year
- In Spain revelers eat 12 grapes at midnight. The grapes are said to predict the coming year. Each grape symbolizes a different month of the year. Sweet grapes represent a good month, but a sour grape is a less than lucky month. Your 5th grape turned out sour? May will be a unlucky month for you.
- In the Southern United States black eyed peas are eaten to show your humility which is said to bring good fortune in the new year. Greens are also eaten because they look like paper currency themselves. They represent prosperity into the year. It is believed that the more greens one eats the larger your fortune will be. Greens are not just served on New Years in the South, but different types are part of the New Year's cuisine around the world. In the South collard greens are usually served, in Germany they consume sauerkraut (cabbage), and the Danish eat stewed Kale sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar.
- In Italy they serve lentils, the abundance of these tiny legumes are said to symbolize bringing in wealth in the following year. It is because the lentil represents coins
- All over the world foods that are in a circular shape are served in abundance. It not only represents coins to bring prosperity to those who eat the circular foods but also the meaning of everything coming full circle. With one year ending and another beginning the cycle of the seasons starts again.
- The Greek bake silver coin into a round loaf of bread called a vasilopita. At midnight you cut the brad into enough slices for every member of the household, including a slice for the house itself. Whoever is to find the coin will receive extra good luck for the next year.
- In Japan they eat Soba (buckwheat noodles) at the chime of midnight. The noodles are then called toshi-koshi (meaning "from one year to another") Soba In the Far East noodles symbolize longevity, so the longer the noodle the better the omen.
- Pork is served in many dishes on New Year's eve, because the fatty meat is said to bring a year rich with wealth and prosperity. The pig is also said to represent progress. A side of cornbread is said to represent the gold you wish to gain in the new year.
- In Japan herring roe is consumed for fertility, dried sardines for a good harvest and shrimp for a long life.
What not to eat for the New Year
Lobster should be avoid since they walk backwards and may signify a setback. Chicken should be avoided as well because they scratch the ground backwards. They are believed to cause regrets and dwelling on the past. Another belief is to avoid any wings fowl completely because good fortune could fly away. In the Philippines and Germany it is important to have food on the table at midnight. Which is said to guarantee a full pantry in the new year.
